Winthrop attorney Anton Moch was recently quoted in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal in the article, “Minnesota Marijuana Legalization Won’t End Federal Pot Problems for Banks.” The legalization of marijuana in Minnesota seems likely, but federal rules may still keep banks out of the lucrative market.

The article discusses how, at the advent of the legalization of cannabis, no banks would take a cannabis company as a client because of the federal prohibition on marijuana.  Moch notes that “as more and more states adopt legalization laws, it gets easier for banks to navigate” banking with marijuana-related businesses in the U.S.
