Winthrop Recognized by TMA For Involvement in“Turnaround of the Year”

MINNEAPOLIS – November 3, 2025 – Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A. is pleased to announce that Will Schumacher and our Creditors’ Remedies team were recognized by the Turnaround Management Association – Minnesota Chapter (TMA) for their work as buyer’s counsel to Trellis Co. in the acquisition of 5 apartment buildings consisting of 56 deeply affordable apartment homes from Perspectives, Inc., a Minnesota-based non-profit corporation that provided programming and housing to at-risk families since 1976. Trellis, in partnership with Missions Inc. Programs, will continue the mission of Perspectives, Inc. by providing affordable, supportive community housing.  Read more.

In 2023, Perspectives discovered that its former officers failed to pay payroll taxes and concealed the nonpayment, resulting in significant tax liabilities. After pursuing a Chapter 11 bankruptcy and a debt repayment solution through a sale of its assets, Perspectives sold its assets (including the dozens of affordable apartment homes) to two non-profit buyers, allowing its mission to endure through new non-profit stewards who continue serving the community. The transaction was named “Turnaround of the Year” by TMA, and the Winthrop team was recognized for their involvement at an awards ceremony on October 29, 2025.
