Jude represents developers and investors on complex real estate matters, often involving the use of tax credits and other unique financing structures. Jude earned his J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law, where he served as the Director of Trial Advocacy, and his B.A., cum laude, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

As the largest practice at Winthrop, our Tax Credit Financing & Syndication group has developed a national reputation for outstanding service to real estate developers, housing authorities, owners, investors, and lenders, and we’re excited to welcome Jude to the team.

Tax Practice Continues Growth and Welcomes New Attorney

MINNEAPOLIS—March 10, 2026. Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A., is pleased to announce that attorney Nick Irmen has joined the firm as Counsel in our Tax and Renewable Energies practices.

Nick represents investors, developers, buyers, and financial institutions on tax credit and other tax-incentivized transactions, with a particular focus on energy tax credits. Leveraging his experience and advanced degree in taxation, he is adept at translating complicated tax rules into clear, actionable advice for his clients. Beyond his client work, Nick works diligently to stay at the forefront of new industry developments and routinely publishes and speaks on cutting-edge topic in the area. Nick earned his J.D. from the University of Arkansas School of Law, cum laude, his LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, and his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Nick joins Winthrop’s established and growing Tax and Renewables practices, where he continues to expand the breadth of experience of the team. Winthrop is widely regarded for its work in tax credit financing and syndication, and Nick’s arrival adds significantly our renewables tax opinion and advisory capabilities.

Tami Diehm Named a 2026 “Women in Business” Honoree by Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal

MINNEAPOLIS – March 5, 2026. Winthrop & Weinstine is proud to announce that firm president and shareholder, Tammera “Tami” Diehm, has been named as a 2026 “Women in Business” honoree by Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. For nearly three decades, Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal has recognized the Twin Cities’ most influential women, including industry-leading executives, entrepreneurs and business owners for their professional accomplishments and community involvement.

In her dual role as Winthrop’s president and a real estate shareholder within the firm, Tami has established herself as a leader in the Twin Cities’ legal industry. As president, Tami has overseen significant growth of the firm’s bench – increasing Winthrop’s attorney headcount by nearly 30% over the past five years – with a targeted strengthening of the firm’s financial services and tax practices. Tami has also led the firm’s real estate strategy. While many organizations have reduced their office footprint in recent years, Winthrop has expanded its investment in downtown Minneapolis through a notable expansion of its physical office space. Bringing Tami’s vision to life, the firm’s expanded workspace supports team collaboration, employee well-being, and an enhanced client experience.

In her legal practice, Tami’s professional excellence has been widely recognized. She is an elected fellow of both the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (an invitation-only association bringing together the nation’s finest real estate lawyers) and the American Bar Foundation (a national honor society recognizing attorneys, judges, and scholars with demonstrated dedication to the principles of the legal profession), and has been ranked in numerous local and national directories, among her many accolades.

Drawing upon her nearly two decades of experience in-house at large and midsized national banks, Kristen brings extensive legal, regulatory, business, and operational experience to her role at Winthrop. As an innovative, solutions-oriented leader, Kristen represents financial institutions of all sizes throughout the full lifecycle of their organizations. She has significant experience advising institutions on financial products and services, compliance and risk management, bank partnerships, regulatory examinations, payments and operational issues, and Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) arrangements. Kristen also brings significant experience in drafting banking agreements, disclosures, policies, and regulatory responses, defending banks in enforcement and litigation matters, advising bank boards, and monitoring regulatory and litigation developments to help clients stay ahead of emerging regulatory and compliance risks.

Prior to joining Winthrop, Kristen counseled clients for three years at a national law firm where she focused on consumer financial services and payments.  Kristen has held senior leadership positions at four (4) national banks, where she provided proactive, practical, and strategic advice and solutions to senior and executive leadership. Kristen has successfully led legal teams and enterprise-wide bank projects. She serves as an Emeritus Director of LegalCORPS, a Minnesota-based nonprofit organization expanding access to the legal system for entrepreneurs, business owners, inventors, and small nonprofits, and, earlier this year, finished her two-year term as a Board Director of Minnesota Women Lawyers. Kristen was named a 2025 “Notable Women in Law” by Twin Cities Business.

Tom Boyd Recognized as a 2025 Minnesota ICON by Finance & Commerce and Minnesota Lawyer

MINNEAPOLIS – December 11, 2025. Winthrop & Weinstine is proud to announce that Tom Boyd, shareholder in our Business & Commercial Litigation practice, has been recognized by Finance & Commerce and Minnesota Lawyer as a 2025 honoree of the Minnesota ICON Award. The Minnesota ICON Awards celebrate local leaders over the age of 60 who have an established list of achievements and successes and are recognized for their ability to lead and inspire others. Honorees were selected by an external panel of industry experts and Finance & Commerce leadership.

Tom has spent nearly 40 years in litigation and trial practice, earning trial and appellate victories that have shaped the law in Minnesota and nationally. As one of Winthrop’s earliest members, Tom is a leader within the firm and a mentor to countless attorneys and other professionals. His guidance and contributions to the legal profession have positively impacted clients, careers, and Winthrop, generally, and his contributions to the law have helped to clarify legal issues, guide courts in the review of lower court decisions, and shape the trajectory and application of the law.

Tom is a fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, an elected member of the American Law Institute, and a member of the Minnesota Board of Law Examiners. He is also a founding member and former chair of both the MSBA Appellate Practice Section and the Eighth Circuit Bar Association, and he served on the boards of the ABA Council of Appellate Lawyers and the Federal Bar Association (Minnesota Chapter). Most recently, Tom was also selected to serve as the 8th Circuit’s 2025-2026 representative on the ABA’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary.

Tom’s love of the history of law and the preservation of the same runs deep. In addition to his legal practice, Tom serves on the Board of Directors for the Ramsey County Historical Society, the Minnesota Supreme Court Historical Society, and the Historical Society of the United States Courts in the Eighth Circuit. He cares deeply about how law shapes our civic history and works to preserve that heritage.

Tom has made a profound impact on the legal landscape, shaping both the law and the professional lives of those around him. His pro bono, commercial litigation, and appellate practices have contributed to a more just legal system, and we are proud to count his as part of the Winthrop team.
