Thomas H. Boyd Elected to American Academy of Appellate Lawyers

MINNEAPOLIS – April 27, 2016 – Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A.,
is pleased to announce that shareholder Thomas H. Boyd was elected to be a member of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers at the Academy’s recent meeting in Seattle, Washington.

The American Academy of Appellate Lawyers was founded in 1990 to recognize outstanding appellate lawyers and promote the improvement of appellate advocacy and the administration of the appellate courts. Academy membership is open only to a person who possesses a reputation of recognized distinction as an appellate lawyer. To be eligible for membership, a nominee’s practice must have focused substantially on appeals during at least the last 15 years. Academy membership is limited to 500 members in the United States and is by invitation only. Candidates for membership must be nominated by a present Academy member, reviewed and approved by the Membership Evaluation Committee, and elected at a regular Academy meeting.

An experienced appellate attorney, Boyd has practiced law with Winthrop & Weinstine for 27 years and chairs the firm’s appellate practice. He is a founding member and former chair of both the Appellate Practice Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the Eighth Circuit Bar Association, and has served on the board of directors of the American Bar Association’s Council of Appellate Lawyers. He has also chaired the Minnesota Supreme Court Historical Society and the Historical Society of the United States Courts in the Eighth Circuit. He is an elected member of the American Law Institute and the American Bar Foundation. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and among the “Leaders in their Field” by Chambers USA for his appellate and commercial litigation practices. He has been listed in the “Top 100” by Minnesota Super Lawyers since 2006 and was named “Attorney of the Year” by Minnesota Lawyer in 2006 and 2012.
