David Aafedt Elected to Sixth Term as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – August 23, 2018. Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A., is pleased to announce that shareholder and firm Board member David Aafedt been re-elected to his sixth term as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Minnesota and North Dakota. Since 2010, David has held positions on the Finance Committee, Executive Committee and as Vice-Chairman of the Board.

As Chair, David convenes and manages meetings of the full Board as well as all meetings of the Executive Committee; including acting as an ex-officio member of all committees. David is actively involved in the development of the BBB budget and acts as an ambassador for the organization, promoting its mission and values as well as the benefits of accreditation.

With more than 7,300 regionally Accredited Businesses, the BBB of Minnesota and North Dakota is a not-for-profit organization with a 22-member volunteer board of directors. Board members, who generally serve a three-year term, are business owners and executives representing a variety of industries, professions and company sizes, as well as organizational partners such as higher education. The BBB aims to be the leader in advancing marketplace trust by promoting ethical relationships between businesses and the public through voluntary self-regulation.

Prior to joining Winthrop & Weinstine in 2003, David served as an Assistant Attorney General with the Minnesota Attorney General’s office. His practice at the firm now mirrors his practice while at the Attorney General’s Office. He uses his extensive experience to advocate on behalf of his clients in a wide range of settings in all 50 states, including state and federal regulatory matters, business and consumer litigation, as well as state and federal audits, investigations, and market conduct examinations.

Todd Urness Honored As “Outstanding Director” by Twin Cities Business

MINNEAPOLIS – July 31, 2018 – Winthrop & Weinstine is pleased to congratulate shareholder Todd Urness on being honored as an “Outstanding Director” by Twin Cities Business for his dedication and exceptional work in the course of his board service at Bridgewater Bank. Todd joined the board when the bank was initially chartered in 2005, and has served in guiding the company through an evolving economic environment and strategic changes, including advising the bank as it went public in March 2018.

Todd Urness is a shareholder and member of the Board of Directors of Winthrop & Weinstine, where he focuses his practice on Real Estate Development and Tax Credit Financing & Syndication.  Todd advises owners, developers, investors, banks, syndicators, and other financial or lending institutions on complex real estate development and finance issues, including tax exempt bonds, tax increment financing, tax credits, joint venture and partnership matters, and governmental subsidies. He focuses on multifamily housing development and finance, including rental and for-sale housing, as well as commercial and mixed-use facilities.

Tammera Diehm is a shareholder with extensive experience in complex real estate and development matters. In her practice, she has represented local and national clients in real estate transactions involving multiple levels of government approvals, environmental challenges and various forms of public and private financing. In addition, Tami helps lead a multi-disciplinary team of lawyers who provide full service representation to gas and convenience store owners and fuel distributors. She also has unique expertise in campaign finance law, advising both for-profit and non-profit organizations on the complex rules regulating the regulatory and tax consequences of political spending.
