Coming out of a year that saw an increase in cyberattacks, including ransomware and phishing attacks, 2022 will bring even more challenges for broadcasters. In addition to the everyday threat of a breach and the potential legal implications for broadcasters, U.S. authorities are now warning all businesses to be vigilant for heightened risk of attacks coming from Russia as a result of the conflict with Ukraine. As if that weren’t enough, new legislation was signed in March designating additional cybersecurity reporting rules and regulations for “critical infrastructure” businesses, of which the broadcasting industry is almost surely going to be a part.

The LFA Women’s Forum Ask Anything Panel is back this month!  The Ask Anything Panel gives associates the chance to anonymously ask any question they have ever wanted to ask about the legal profession but never had the right person or opportunity to ask. How do you prioritize when you are feeling overwhelmed?  What is the appropriate response when opposing counsel talks down to you?   What do you do when your daughter’s recital is the night before a big deadline and you feel pulled in opposite directions? The Ask Anything Panel will take place on April 27 at 1:30 ET and will feature a panel of female partners and shareholders from LFA firms who will share their insight on how they have handled various situations in their careers.

Winthrop Shareholder Eric Swanson will be speaking on April 22, 2022 (Earth Day) at the University of Minnesota (UMN), West Bank Energy and Environment Collaborative’s Annual Conference.  This year’s conference is titled: (Re)Investing in the Heartland: Rural Perspectives on Environmental Initiatives.  Eric will discuss clean energy infrastructure siting issues (transmission lines, wind and solar energy, etc) – what works, what doesn’t and what role can rural communities play.

University of Minnesota Retirees Association’s April 2022 Forum will feature Winthrop attorney Tim Marx, former president and chief executive officer of Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis and a leading authority on the homeless crisis in the Twin Cities. Tim will comment on the causes of homelessness, its extent, its context in relationship to other major poverty-related challenges, and solutions.

Winthrop attorney Megan Miller will be speaking at the University of St. Thomas Law School about transitioning from law school to being a new lawyer, and about her involvement in the Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA) New Lawyers Section (NLS) as Co-Membership Engagement Director. The event is hosted by the St. Thomas New Lawyers Association, which is a student organization that facilitates law students becoming involved with the HCBA NLS, and provides students with leadership and networking opportunities.
