MINNEAPOLIS — June 14, 2023. Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A., is pleased to announce that Andrew J. Steil and Jeffrey A. Peterson have joined the firm as Shareholders in the Creditors’ Remedies practice. Jeff and Andrew each bring more than fifteen years of experience representing clients in the financial services industry. They will be joined by several additional team members who will deepen the Firm’s bench strength in this important practice area.

Andrew J. Steil primarily represents lenders as lead counsel with significant financial services experience in large, complex participations, commercial lending, bank litigations, lien litigations, foreclosures, business liquidations, lender liability cases, loan transactions, loan documentation and structure issues, bankruptcy litigation, mortgage and title insurance litigation, large collection actions, and agricultural workouts and litigations. He is the former president of the Stearns/Benton Bar Association and was recently named to The Best Lawyers in America® list for Banking and Finance Litigation. He also represents multiple banks as outside general counsel.

In addition to his practice, Andrew has served on several nonprofit boards of directors—including the Minnesota Real Estate Foundation and as the president of the board of Catholic Charities for the Diocese of St. Cloud. Andrew earned his J.D from the William Mitchell College of Law and earned his B.S. from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Jeffrey (“Jeff”) Peterson focuses his practice on commercial transactions, creditor’s rights, bankruptcy, and agricultural and food law. Jeff was recently elected to the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers’ class of Fellows — one of around 200 nationwide and one of less than ten in Minnesota. Jeff is also the current President of the American Agricultural Law Association, and a co-editor of the Bankruptcy Practice in Minnesota Deskbook,  published by the Minnesota State Bar Association.

He is a former chair of the American Bar Association Agricultural and Agribusiness Financing Subcommittee and is regular speaker on agriculture and finance thought-leadership topics.

With his background in agriculture and agribusiness, he has advised clients on commodity hedging strategies and trading agricultural futures and options for grain and livestock producers and grain cooperatives in South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Colorado. Jeff earned his LL.M. in agriculture and food law from the University of Arkansas, his J.D. from the University of Kansas and his B.A. from Hamline University.
