Samuel J. Thompson

I understand my clients’ businesses through a practical legal and business lens.

My Approach

I represent clients in finding creative ways to solve their problems in real estate and tax credit transactions, and work closely with them to understand their needs and ensure they are met every step of the way. I have always been involved in sports, which instilled in me the importance of working together on a team to achieve a goal. I appreciate that everyone has a part to play, and I use my skills to help see a transaction through to closing.

I work with clients to draft purchase agreements, negotiate with buyers and sellers, and go through the closing process, including title evidence, surveys, title review, and environmental reports. I take a realistic approach to how deals start and end and work with clients to find practical strategies to accomplish their goals.

In addition to my practice in real estate, I have also assisted various clients in becoming a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit corporation. I have worked with clients from the early stages of forming their entity and drafting their organizational documents, as well as bringing the client full circle with applying and receiving tax-exempt status at the federal and state level.

Outside of work, I am actively involved in my church, River Valley Church – Minneapolis, I still play football – I played as a defensive safety in college – and pickup basketball, and explore the Twin Cities food and coffee scene.
