I often represent banks and financial institutions of all sizes in financial transactions, usually involving extending credit. I work with clients to structure the deal, draft and negotiate loan documents, interface with borrowers’ counsel, assist in due diligence review, including title, survey and environmental review, handle government-related issues like tax increment financing, review all documents and negotiate terms, and ultimately close the transaction.
My Approach
In my practice I vigorously represent lenders in a way that drives the deal toward closing. I make sure not only that the documents are drafted in ways that protect the lender, and that we’ve crossed all the “t”s and dotted all the “i”s, but that the borrower has also had a good experience – a concern that is unique to this area. I’ll never be the lawyer who digs in his heels and refuses everything, or be a cupcake and give up everything. I take care of my client, but see that the deal makes it to closing.
With my background in accounting, I love reviewing financial projections and reading through the numbers. But, especially for the deals involving real estate development, I also get to step outside of the numbers, and walk down the street to see the tangible results of my work. I get great enjoyment out of that, even more so when the outcome is helping others, like the educational centers for children with disabilities, job training facilities, or hospitals and cancer treatment centers.
Outside of work, I’m just a family guy – we love going boating and water skiing together.
