It’s not just moving numbers around; tax credit work creates a tangible benefit to society.

My Approach

It can be easy to concentrate on the minutiae of a project and lose sight of the broader picture. Ultimately, tax credit deals are projects that we as a society have collectively decided deliver a social good and should be incentivized. The projects I enjoy working on most are those where I work closely with the client to collaborate on creating housing and opportunities where they are needed most, growing my clients’ business while providing community benefits.

I specialize in the development and financing of real estate projects that utilize federal and state tax incentive programs. I’ve closed deals utilizing federal low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC), federal historic rehabilitation tax credits, and federal investment tax credits (i.e., solar energy credits). Additionally, I’ve closed deals using various tax credits, including state LIHTCs, state historic rehabilitation credits, and various other state incentive programs (including programs focusing on, e.g., abandoned building rehabilitation, industrial site recovery, textile mill rehabilitation, geographically-focused incentive programs, job creation and retention awards, and others). I have a particular focus on federal and state historic rehabilitation deals.

Additionally, I devote a significant amount of my practice to the development and financing of commercial and multifamily real estate projects not involving tax credit financing. Overall, I’ve represented in clients in connection with over one hundred fifty real estate projects.

I’ve closed financing on projects in twenty-seven states and counting, ranging from Californian solar energy facilities to New York City mixed-used developments, from performing arts spaces to sprawling low-income housing facilities, from the historic rehabilitation of an 1830s church to the historic rehabilitation of a NASA research facility. I’ve represented large and small real estate developers, tax credit syndicators, direct tax credit investors, conventional construction lenders, specialized tax credit lenders, units of government, and others.

Prior to joining the firm, I worked in international tax with PwC, designing tax-efficient cross-border structures and analyzing and advising on the tax impact of acquisitions and other transactions.

Outside of work, I enjoy reading and spending time with my wife and two amazing daughters.
