He represents clients in all types of commercial litigation, including complex commercial litigation, insurance coverage actions, business tort and breach of contract cases, trust litigation, and all types of civil appeals in federal and state courts. Tom is noted for being a “well-seasoned, high-quality attorney. He is always at the top of his game.”

Eric Swanson
Eric represents clients before state and federal regulatory bodies, in the courts and at the legislature in the areas of energy and environmental law. His energy and environmental work has involved representing a wide variety of clients, including investor-owned utilities, independent power producers, wind energy developers and other renewable energy producers, and large industrial customers. Eric brings a unique blend of litigation experience, appellate advocacy, legislative work, and investigative counseling to his legal practice.

Matthew McBride
Matt represents financial institutions and other commercial enterprises on all types of business disputes, including shareholder, contract, products liability, employment, and creditors’ remedies disputes. In addition to his role as litigator, Matt routinely serves as a trusted business advisor and as outside general counsel to many of his clients. Matt is recognized for being “attentive and responsive. He is knowledgeable in corporate disputes and settlement negotiations.”

John Stern
John represents clients, often real estate developers and investors, looking to utilize federal and state tax credits to develop affordable housing and to adaptively reuse historic buildings. He also helps clients develop multifamily housing, senior housing, and mixed-use developments that include residential, hotel, office, and/or retail space – projects that are often not feasible without state or local incentives. John is lauded by clients for being “amazing,” with one noting that “he is my go-to” for real estate matters.

Todd Urness
Todd advises owners, developers, investors, banks, syndicators, and other financial or lending institutions on complex real estate development and finance issues, including tax exempt bonds, tax increment financing, tax credits, joint venture and partnership matters, and governmental subsidies. Todd is the founding member of Winthrop’s Tax Credit Financing & Syndication practice, now the largest team within our firm, and has helped the practice garner a national reputation for outstanding service to real estate developers, housing authorities, owners, investors, and lenders.

Tammera Diehm
In her dual role as Firm President and a shareholder in Winthrop’s real estate group, Tami represents local and national clients on property transactions of all types, from acquisitions, sales, leases, developments, and financings to complicated land use, zoning and regulatory compliance matters. She frequently assists clients with multi-unit deals, including those involving the downstream energy, convenience store, and franchise quick-serve restaurant industries. Tami’s ranking of “Eminent Practitioner” reflects her status as a highly influential lawyer in her practice area who balances her legal work with her significant managerial responsibilities as Firm President.

Recognition by Chambers is based on interviews with clients, in-house law departments and attorneys from around the country, as well as independent research. All research conducted is independent, with final rankings based on evidence collected.
