MINNEAPOLIS – December 11, 2025. Winthrop & Weinstine is proud to announce that Tom Boyd, shareholder in our Business & Commercial Litigation practice, has been recognized by Finance & Commerce and Minnesota Lawyer as a 2025 honoree of the Minnesota ICON Award. The Minnesota ICON Awards celebrate local leaders over the age of 60 who have an established list of achievements and successes and are recognized for their ability to lead and inspire others. Honorees were selected by an external panel of industry experts and Finance & Commerce leadership.

Tom has spent nearly 40 years in litigation and trial practice, earning trial and appellate victories that have shaped the law in Minnesota and nationally. As one of Winthrop’s earliest members, Tom is a leader within the firm and a mentor to countless attorneys and other professionals. His guidance and contributions to the legal profession have positively impacted clients, careers, and Winthrop, generally, and his contributions to the law have helped to clarify legal issues, guide courts in the review of lower court decisions, and shape the trajectory and application of the law.

Tom is a fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, an elected member of the American Law Institute, and a member of the Minnesota Board of Law Examiners. He is also a founding member and former chair of both the MSBA Appellate Practice Section and the Eighth Circuit Bar Association, and he served on the boards of the ABA Council of Appellate Lawyers and the Federal Bar Association (Minnesota Chapter). Most recently, Tom was also selected to serve as the 8th Circuit’s 2025-2026 representative on the ABA’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary.

Tom’s love of the history of law and the preservation of the same runs deep. In addition to his legal practice, Tom serves on the Board of Directors for the Ramsey County Historical Society, the Minnesota Supreme Court Historical Society, and the Historical Society of the United States Courts in the Eighth Circuit. He cares deeply about how law shapes our civic history and works to preserve that heritage.

Tom has made a profound impact on the legal landscape, shaping both the law and the professional lives of those around him. His pro bono, commercial litigation, and appellate practices have contributed to a more just legal system, and we are proud to count his as part of the Winthrop team.
