After many years of representing clients, primarily in federal court litigation, my primary role now is serving as the firm’s General Counsel, advising the Firm on matters of risk management, professional responsibility, professional development, Firm governance, and Firm management. This role also allows me to mentor the next generation of lawyers, and pass along some of what I’ve learned over the years.
I feel fortunate to have had the benefit of different perspectives in my practice. I wasn’t the person who knew they wanted to be a lawyer since childhood – in fact, I originally took the LSAT on a bet (I won). I spent nearly twenty years in the business world before becoming an attorney, and before I started practicing law, I spent two years as a federal district court law clerk. Thanks to those experiences, I look at things through three lenses – the business lens, the judicial lens, and the lawyer lens. I’ve hired lawyers and been the client; I have an appreciation for what clients need and expect from their attorneys. And because I’ve worked closely with a federal district court judge, I have insight into how judges and jurors look at arguments and evidence. What I enjoy most, though, is working with my partners and colleagues at the Firm to ensure that we give clients the very best legal services possible.
Outside of work, I enjoy scuba diving in the Caribbean, and I’m a certified rescue diver. I also enjoy fishing, hunting, and reading, mostly classic literature, junk novels, histories and biographies. And I love spending time with my wife of over thirty years, and our two wonderful sons.
