Navigating the ever-changing and heavily regulated landscape of the healthcare industry can be daunting for entities and individual healthcare professionals alike. For our clients in the healthcare space, the success of their business relies upon a myriad of factors, from patient satisfaction to defending against a payer or government audit, to incorporating a new rule or law into practice. Unlike some practice areas, my job is different every day!
My favorite part of my work is that I get to be a counselor to my clients in the true sense of the word, and employ both practical and creative solutions to complex problems. It’s an honor to help clients achieve their professional and business goals by incorporating all aspects of the issue at hand – which sometimes includes more than just pure legal advice. In my work advising medical professionals and others in the health care industry, I have found that answering the legal question alone doesn’t always solve the problem. I guide clients through decisions, questions, and challenges, so they can focus on their goals.
Outside of work, I love to run, walk my dog, and work in my garden. I also enjoy traveling and hiking in the National and State parks, and spending time with family.
My expertise includes state and federal regulatory matters, investigations, and compliance, with a focus on the health care industry. I have extensive experience representing clients in administrative appeals and contested case hearings, medical/dental board matters, and advising on claims management, policies, procedures, government and payer audits, IRB approvals, and evaluating potential business and clinical risks. My background includes experience in litigation, drafting contracts, clinical risk management, and patient-facing care. Prior to joining the firm, I worked as a Risk Manager for a regional health care provider, providing direct guidance and education to providers and operational leaders to mitigate risk stemming from professional negligence and general liability matters. In addition, I advised on statutory and regulatory reporting requirements, and was responsible for negotiating settlement agreements.
