My favorite part of my work is that I get to be a counselor to my clients in the true sense of the word. I enjoy helping clients work through problems, incorporating all aspects of the issue at hand – which sometimes includes more than just pure legal advice. In my work advising medical professionals and others in the health care industry, I have found that answering the legal question doesn’t always solve the problem. I guide clients through decisions, questions, and challenges, so they can focus on patient care.
I have broad experience in the healthcare field, from patient-facing care, to litigation, to advising in the regulatory realm, and all of these facets have helped me understand what is helpful to my clients rather than just a “yes” or “no” answer. By understanding how my clients actually need to apply any answer I give, I am better able to see past the question to the actual need.
Outside of work, I love to run, and I play in an adult kickball league. My partner and I enjoy traveling and hiking in the National and State parks, and spending time with family.
I represent clients in regulatory law and compliance matters, with a focus on the health care industry. I have extensive experience counseling sophisticated clients on state and federal health regulations, claims management, and litigation experience. Prior to joining the firm, I worked as a Risk Manager for a regional health care provider, providing direct guidance and education to providers and operational leaders to mitigate risk stemming from professional negligence and general liability matters. In addition I developed, drafted, updated, and advised on hospital and system-wide policies and procedures adhering to federal and state statutes and regulations; participated in complex care meetings and root cause analysis, maintained compliance with statutory and regulatory reporting requirements, and managed the medical device failure reporting system to the FDA. I also had oversight and responsibility for claims management, negotiating settlement agreements, communication with outside counsel, and more.
