Sometimes it can be easy to forget that with every business there are real people behind it with hopes and ideas, as well as challenges and uncertainties. One of the aspects of my work that I appreciate most is getting to work closely with those businesses and their leaders to help them achieve their goals and overcome their challenges through the lens of the law.
I love being a tax lawyer, but there are misconceptions because it really means I am also a business lawyer. Whether it’s forming partnerships, LLCs and corporations, working on an acquisition, reorganization or a restructure transaction, or helping the owners form a business succession plan, I enjoy working as a team with clients to help them navigate through the tax laws so they can achieve their goals in a way most beneficial to them while building relationships along the way. There is nothing more gratifying than helping a client start a business out of their basement and decades later looking back at what they’ve built. Knowing you were a part of that, and then helping them realize the fruits of their success or pass it on to the next generation, is what drives me in my work.
Outside of work, my wife and I love to travel anywhere and everywhere. I am devoted to my alma mater, Ole Miss, and can often be found at their alumni or sporting events.
I represent developers of all sizes in federal and state taxation matters, including low-income housing, historic and other federal and state tax credits. I use my experience as a CPA for my clients’ benefit to help clients achieve their business and financial goals.
I represent clients in sophisticated tax and estate planning matters, including the tax-related aspects of business formations, mergers and acquisitions, and restructurings. My clients include developers of commercial, retail, and other properties, as well as syndicators, in all aspects of real estate finance, including acquisitions and leasing.
I also advise high-net-worth families and business owners on business and tax- and estate-planning issues that arise, working with families to balance competing goals and common ground. In addition, I have experience representing clients in IRS and state tax examinations and disputes.
