Many businesses and innovators are still unfamiliar with the idea of tax incentives. One of the best parts of my role is having the opportunity to introduce these specialty tax incentives, like the R&D tax credit, to owners and innovators and seeing the light bulb go off when they realize they can qualify for these incentives and just how much they can reinvest in their businesses. I appreciate delving deep into the details of clients’ businesses, spending time with the operations team, engineers, scientists, and others, so that I can truly understand their business and find creative ways to maximize opportunities for them.
My path to the law was a bit winding – I spent time at a Big Four accounting firm and earned my CPA license before deciding to go to law school. But that path has allowed me to find a balance between my quantitative skillset gained through my accounting background in conjunction with more analytical skills honed through the practice of law. I love numbers, and the accountant in me will always be there – even more so because I get to apply it to my work in the R&D tax credit area, as well.
Outside of work, I’m a mom to twin boys and when we’re not spending time together going to their soccer, baseball and basketball games, I enjoy frequenting the gym, golfing and volunteering at my church.
I focus my practice on corporate tax incentive projects across the country, for both public and private companies and ranging from complex corporate structures to startups. These projects involve all aspects of credits and incentives, including Research Tax Credits, Work Opportunity Tax Credits, lobbying expense reviews, and other federal and state programs designed to attract and retain businesses and job growth.
