Counsel

Joel J. de León

My background in education shapes how I approach today’s data privacy and cybersecurity challenges.

My Approach

I take a practical, business-first approach when helping clients navigate data privacy, cybersecurity, and the rapidly evolving world of AI. My goal is always to understand what matters most to each client, then crafting efficient solutions that support these business objectives while also managing risk. Whether I’m advising on cross-border data transfers, responding to a cybersecurity incident, or helping implement a global privacy program, I view myself as an extension of my clients’ legal and business teams, working alongside them to solve problems, not simply identify them.

Before becoming an attorney, I built a career in education and administration, an experience that shaped my collaborative communication style and problem-solving approach. Born and raised in northern Mexico, I have worked extensively with organizations across the Americas and Europe and am fluent in Spanish with conversational proficiency in Portuguese. I enjoy tackling complex challenges in an area of law that changes every day, and I’m committed to helping clients find practical answers to difficult questions, from navigating GDPR-compliant international data transfers to adapting to emerging AI regulations. I believe the best legal advice is both technically sound and grounded in the realities of how businesses operate and grow.

Outside the office, I enjoy spending time with my growing family, tackling home improvement projects, and staying active through running, soccer, tennis, and other outdoor activities.
