I get a great deal of satisfaction as I work with my clients to put together deals, get all the pieces in the right place, and achieve an outcome that is beneficial to both sides of a deal. I love the innovative and complicated transactions, seeing how the puzzle pieces all fit together and looking for new ways to achieve results for my clients. I consider myself an optimist – I always try to find a silver lining, or take a tough situation and do what I can to make it better. In transactions as well as in life, there is a finite number of things that we can control, and I make a point of recognizing those, and working as hard as I can to put them in place in a way that benefits my clients.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my husband and our son. I grew up in rural Minnesota near Lake Mille Lacs, an experience that undoubtedly established my deep-rooted love for backcountry camping trips, being on the lake, and taking the time to appreciate how fortunate we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world. I also had the unique experience growing up being part of a big family. In addition to me and my brothers, my parents cared for several of my foster siblings with developmental disabilities. These experiences allow me to easily and thoroughly appreciate the amazing opportunities I’ve been given and I try to leverage these experiences by helping to elevate others.
Having great mentors has been instrumental for me, and made a world of difference in my professional career. I am keenly aware of the numerous doors that have been opened at various points in my life as a direct result from the mentorship and encouragement I received along the way. Recognizing how important my mentors have been to me, I do my best to pay that forward. One way I do this is by participating in a great program called Hope for Tomorrow where I am paired with an 8th grade student for a year. The students in the program are selected by teachers and parents because they show leadership qualities. The mentors are there to encourage these amazing young people to express themselves, help them discover who they are, and who they want to be.
I represent clients in commercial lending and other banking and finance related matters, including structuring and documenting complex commercial transactions involving real estate construction, bonds and tax credits, on behalf of a range of types of lenders.
In addition to real estate financing, I spent a number of years in California working in-house for a FinTech startup on the cutting edge of financing renewable energy projects across the country.
