Business and life are about relationships, and I bring that fundamental belief to every aspect of my work. I genuinely care about our clients and their success, so I strive to provide timely, responsive, cost-effective, and the highest quality service. One of the best parts about commercial lending is its collaborative nature; borrowers and lenders, despite being on opposite sides, both want the deal to close with a minimum of drama and delays. So let’s partner together to choose a realistic closing date, plan for the foreseeable, pivot when necessary, and land the plane smoothly and on time.
Above all else, I aim to be practical. I will never make a mountain out of a molehill, and I will work with clients to understand their goals, so I can resolve important issues or let unimportant issues slide. Together, we will identify practical solutions, weigh pros and cons, and achieve the optimal resolution.
Working with commercial lenders and borrowers is very rewarding because financial transactions make the world go around. Commercial loans are typically the lenders’ business, and for borrowers, loans help businesses operate, build new facilities, acquire needed equipment, expand into new markets or business lines, and generally grow. The work is therefore vital, not only for lenders and borrowers, but for the overall economy, which gives me great satisfaction.
Outside of work, I love cooking, camping, playing strategy games, and generally spending time with my spouse and our two daughters. I play the snare drum with bagpipe bands, so I’ll occasionally don a kilt, hang out with bagpipers, and try to maintain my hearing. I also play golf, just not very well.
I represent global, national, regional, and community banks, life insurance companies, and other institutional lenders in a variety of financial transactions, including commercial real estate and other asset-based lending, public and private finance on bond transactions, C&I loans, syndicated and club credits, loan participations, and senior and mezzanine financing. I also have significant experience representing borrowers, helping to negotiate loan transactions to fit the client’s business needs and aspirations.
I have closed many agricultural and agribusiness loans. And as a faculty member in the agricultural track of ABA Commercial Lending Schools and the Agricultural Lending Institute at California State University, Fresno, I have unique insight into agricultural lending issues.
