Health Law attorney Gerald Fornwald will speak on “Between a Rock and a Hard Place: Balancing 42 CFR Part 2 With Daily Health Care Operations” at the 15th Annual Washington Health Law Summit in Washington, DC on December 4, 2017.

Addiction and mental health issues have taken center stage in our country. And with the expansion of technology, medical providers have the ability to rapidly share information and collaborate regarding holistic treatment of addiction and mental health in a way that has never existed before—assuming, of course, they are allowed to do so. 42 CFR part 2, the federal regulation governing the privacy of addiction treatment information, was recently revised, but still does not work in a modern healthcare environment – placing impractical limits on electronic integration, care coordination with non-addiction treatment providers, and limiting the manner and method by which information can be stored and shared. Is true modernization on the horizon? If so, what changes are coming?
