I focus my practice on representing banks and other lenders in financing transactions secured by commercial real estate, with an emphasis on low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) and affordable multifamily housing projects, construction and bridge loans, permanent loans, forward loan commitments, and conversions. In all aspects of my practice, I review and advise clients regarding title and survey matters. I also have experience representing lenders that originate and sell multifamily mortgage loans to Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.
The lack of affordable housing is one of the biggest challenges of our time. I believe it is possible to profitably tackle the affordable housing problem across our country. I work with banks and other lenders to finance affordable multifamily housing projects, with an emphasis on low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) projects, construction and bridge loans, permanent loans, forward loan commitments, and conversions. My goal is to be a partner in these deals by pulling on the same rope as everyone else, and contributing value without over-lawyering.
On each deal, I bring to bear my technical knowledge of the law as well as an experienced, practical know-how to advise clients on deal structure, loan documentation, title and survey matters, and all the many out-of-the-box and tricky issues that are part and parcel of dealing with this type of valuable asset. My favorite aspect of this practice is finding a way to get to “yes,” and there is nothing quite like the collective celebration when an affordable deal has successfully closed.
Outside of work, I love all things music, and you will often find me making noise in my home recording studio. I also enjoy being outdoors and exploring the many Twin Cities parks and lakes with my wife.
