Experience
Michelle Dawson helps clients achieve their intellectual property management goals by providing a wide range of patent expertise and services, including patent prosecution, patent litigation, patent licensing, and patent-related corporate deal work. She has worked with clients in a number of different industries, including medical and chemical technologies and devices, pharmaceuticals, food and nutritional formularies, manufacturing and machinery, data and communications networks, computer software, agricultural products and processes, business systems, and other areas. She has also developed expertise in a number of patent office proceedings, including reexaminations, reissues, and accelerated examinations. Michelle has represented clients such as Land O’ Lakes and Ingenix.

Michelle enjoys working with a variety of clients, whether the clients are from large companies, small companies, or are individual inventors. She understands that the IP needs of a client depend on the client’s particular circumstances, and that those circumstances may change over time. She works hard to find cost-effective and sustainable solutions for the client’s intellectual property, helping to make the IP a business asset that furthers the client’s overall business plan. One of the things she enjoys the most about her practice is developing long-lasting relationships with companies—getting to know their people, their technology, and their goals.

Prior to her legal career, Michelle worked in research compliance and the Office of Regulatory Affairs at the University of Minnesota. She served as a manager of and regulatory expert on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee; served on the Institutional Review Board; and helped implement polices related to individual and institutional conflict of interest. She augmented her knowledge and interest in research compliance by also pursuing a Master’s of Science in Health Services Research Policy and Administration. Being located in a city that is well-established as a hub for medical device companies and health care organizations suits Michelle’s particular interests and background perfectly.

When Michelle is away from work, she enjoys reading, playing hockey, snowboarding, and yoga.
