Practice Areas

Michael S. Divine is an associate in the Tax, Trusts and Estates practice, and has extensive experience advising clients in estate planning, probate, business succession planning, and the implementation of estate plans after death. He regularly speaks at local and national conferences relating to tax, trust, and estate law, and his legal articles have been published in five languages.

Michael uses a broad range of tools including wills, trusts, business entities, health care directives, and powers of attorney to reduce estate taxes and navigate complicated family and business relationships. He works with clients to tailor plans that ensure wealth is transferred to the next generation in a matter that is not only efficient, but also encourages value-driven and responsible asset management, preserving principal for generations to come.

Occasionally, families encounter differences in goals that cannot be resolved through negotiation, requiring the help of a formal process involving a judge, arbitrator, or jury. When such conflict occurs, Michael helps clients navigate litigation procedures, while working to reduce the financial and emotional toll involved in trust and estate contests.

Michael meets with clients both in the Winthrop & Weinstine Minneapolis and Saint Paul offices.
