Erin E. Mathern is a shareholder focusing her practice on real estate development and finance.  Erin represents for-profit and non-profit developers in a variety of complex matters, including land acquisition and assembly, development planning, entitlements, governmental subsidies, and the use of various financing mechanisms, including loan and grant programs administered by federal, state, and local governments, tax-exempt bonds and tax increment financing.  A significant portion of Erin’s practice is devoted to facilitating the development of affordable, multifamily housing around the country utilizing low-income housing tax credits.

Erin also has significant experience in urban and adaptive re-use developments, and acquisition and disposition, leasing, easements, title matters, common interest community issues, and the representation of businesses and business owners in matters of strategic planning and business formation.

Before joining private legal practice, Erin worked in real estate development for more than a decade as the Development Director and then General Counsel of a Minnesota Top-20 builder. Erin’s legal practice is based on an underlying foundation of real-world experience. She is an advocate for clients, working together to find well-formulated strategies and business-minded solutions to a variety of legal issues. Erin recognizes that innovation and creative problem-solving are key components to successful real estate transactions, and to managing and growing successful businesses.

In addition to her legal career, Erin owns a specialty real estate firm. She is interested in architecture and historic preservation and, along with her business partners, has completed several historic renovation projects, winning awards for adaptive reuse of historic buildings.
