Because of my career, I have had relationships with five different law firms in Minneapolis, and I always come back to Winthrop & Weinstine[…]I would recommend them for both small cases and large ones. I have used them in both and have never been disappointed.

Winthrop & Weinstine shareholder Stephen Baird will present at the 25th annual PTO Day, hosted by The Intellectual Property Owners Education Foundation.  The conference connects the IP community with the PTO, and brings together experts from the USPTO and the private bar to discuss current developments.

Baird will present on the topic "Federal Registration of Disparaging, Immoral and Scandalous Trademarks."  The first part of the session will focus on an overview of Section 2(a) of the Lanham Act as well as the procedures for determining if a trademark is disparaging.  Baird, as the “legal mind” behind the groundbreaking cancellation of the Washington Redskins trademark registrations, will discuss the provision, its implications and applications with legal counsel on both sides of the debate, including the counsel who represented the Native Americans in the Washington Redskins case, as well as counsel for The Slants, a musical band whose trademark registration was refused as disparaging.
