Brett A. Klein Joins Intellectual Property Department at Winthrop & Weinstine

. Brett A. Klein has joined the Intellectual Property department at Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A. He is a member of the Patent Law & Prosecution, Intellectual Property Litigation, Intellectual Property, and Patent Litigation practice groups. He previously practiced at the international law firm of Dorsey & Whitney LLP.

His practice involves preparing and prosecuting patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and offering strategic advice to clients regarding growth and management of their patent portfolios. He focuses on patents in a wide array of mechanically related technologies. A registered engineer, Mr. Klein also works with emerging companies to help develop and implement their patent strategies, as well as mature companies in managing complex patent portfolios.

As an engineer with engineering career experience, he offers an unmatched ability to read and understand engineering drawings and efficiently wrap inventions into patent applications. In addition, Mr. Klein is an adjunct professor for the William Mitchell College of Law Intellectual Property Law Clinic. In this role, he assists students in representing clinic clients interested in protecting their intellectual property.

He received his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law and his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University. He lives in Jordan, Minnesota, with his wife and their four children.
