MINNEAPOLIS, MN – January 30, 2012. Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A., announced today that Devan V. Padmanabhan has joined the firm’s Intellectual Property department as a shareholder in the IP Litigation and Patent Law & Prosecution practices.

Mr. Padmanabhan is a patent attorney and trial lawyer with over 18 years of experience. He litigates patent and other intellectual property cases, prosecutes patent applications, and helps clients develop and manage their intellectual property portfolios.

Mr. Padmanabhan will lead the firm’s Patent Litigation practice. Mr. Padmanabhan was previously a partner in the international law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP, where he was the head of their Minneapolis Patent department. Six attorneys from Dorsey & Whitney left to join Winthrop & Weinstine’s Intellectual Property department.

Mr. Padmanabhan handles intellectual property cases through trial and on appeal, and he has represented clients such as Cargill and Fair Isaac Corporation. He has a degree in electrical engineering and is a nationally recognized authority on software patents. He also teaches law school courses on patent prosecution and patent litigation.

“The addition of Devan is another step in the continuing expansion of our patent practice,” said Scott Dongoske, firm president. “He is one of Minnesota’s leading patent attorneys, and combines technical acumen with the courtroom skills of an experienced trial lawyer. His expertise and relationships add to our growing Intellectual Property department.”

“Winthrop & Weinstine offered an exciting opportunity for my practice, with its incredible client portfolio and the entrepreneurial spirit of its Intellectual Property team,” said Mr. Padmanabhan. “I am looking forward to working with the firm to continue to build on these distinctive strengths.”

Mr. Padmanabhan received his B.S. in electrical engineering from Northwestern University, and his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law where he served as Executive Editor of the Journal of Criminal Law & Criminology.
